I will post any music I deem as "GOOD." You can be the judge of how accurate I am. If you follow me, I only guarantee good times, riffs, dirty south, and probably a good dose of old worn out classic rock.
Mavis Staples - “I Have Learned To Do Without You” (1970)
Ripped from a 7” on Volt, mainly for the last minute or so. Killer.
Good morning.
Jackie Moore - “Both Ends Against The Middle” (Sweet Charlie Babe, 1973)
Teddy Pendergrass - “Judge For Yourself” (Heaven Only Knows, 1983)
I have no idea why I couldn’t find this song anywhere on the internet. Maybe the catchiest song on the entire album. Teddy’s rough, raw vocals are the real meat of the song over the clean, bouncy, disco-synth-funk garnish. Dexter Wansel wrote, arranged and produced the song, one of the great synth-funk-virtuosos. I recommend Wansel’s solo stuff as well.
But good morning!
Martha & The Vandellas - “Tear It On Down” (Black Magic, 1972)
Their final album for Motown and ever, features covers of The Beatles (used on a previous album), Marvin Gaye, and Jackson 5. It even has production and writing by Ashford & Simpson. Albeit overlooked at the time of release, it has songs that people really need to hear so they don’t always think of “Heat Wave” when someone mentions the Vandellas.
Ray Charles & His Orchestra - “Unchain My Heart” (1961)
Joe Simon - “Drowning In A Sea Of Love” (Drowning In A Sea Of Love, 1972)
Gamble-Huff doing right as they normally do.
Tyrone Davis - “You Wouldn’t Believe” (1972)
Mimicking some greats but he wasn’t so bad himself. Dakar never really disappoints.
